Proposed changes to Jollyboat Class Restrictions
July 2011
Four changes are proposed, all Class Restriction changes or additions relating to the use of carbon and other exotics. The proposals stem from the discussion surrounding the use of exotics at the AGM and the report tables at the Jollyboat Class Association Cabinet Meeting of Thursday 7th April 2011
At this Cabinet Meeting the following Class Restriction changes, with a very clear explanatory introduction to the members as to the reasons for change, were proposed:
The proposed Class Restriction Changes are (to be included under rule 3, Construction) :
- That no carbon / Kevlar or similar composite be glued or permanently bonded to the hull in any form. That the wooden hull and / or deck may only be sheathed in a single layer of up to 180gsm polyester fibreglass cloth.
- That the foils (centreboards and rudders) shall be of solid wood and may only be sheathed in up to two layers of 180gsm polyester fibreglass cloth on each side of the foil. The use of carbon / Kevlar or similar composites is not permitted in the foil construction under any circumstances.
- Fittings may be constructed from any material. Fittings include but are not limited to tillers, stocks, spreaders and marine hardware. Fittings must be mechanically fastened by screws, rivets, and bolts or similar and not glued or bonded to the hull, spars or foils.
- That anyone with a component, fitting or concept that is not sure if it fits within the class rules are to contact the class measurer for clarification before proceeding.
It was also agreed that the sentiments conveyed in the proposed clause (4) above should be incorporated into the Annual Measurement WOF proces placing the onus of checking with the measurer for clarification on the boat owner.
These rule changes were carried by a unanimous motion proposed and seconded by Roger Hall and Steve Newcombe respectively at the Jollyboat Class Association Cabinet Meeting of Thursday 7th April 2011.
