14 local and off island starters turned up for this event run by the Waiheke Boating Club.
Saturday's racing was held in fresh SW conditions with 4 races completed, saw some high speed wipeouts and numerous unplanned inspections of below the waterline paint work.

Short start lines made for some intense battles to squeeze in for a good position, saw several recalls and 1 general recall.

Hot Shot shows her damage after her incident with the committee boat |
Murray Robertson finding a diminishing gap at the committee boat end of the start line, leaving the committee boat the undisputed victor and a 2ft hole in the hull of Hot Shot just above the water line.
Remarkably Murray made it to shore without assistance. We look forward to seeing you back on the water Murray !
The local Bowling club was seconded as a clubhouse for Saturday night festivities.
Sunday found some competitors nailing the Voltarin and other pain killers to enable them to climb back into their boats, fortunately conditions were a bit easier however very shifty in the NWer. A further 3 races were sailed for the completion of the 7 race series.
Overall, racing was particularly close throughout the weekend, with some big squalls on Saturday afternoon, making for some exciting and not always in total control sailing. The five off island entries got some close competition with guns being taken by locals Alex Stone and Paul MacIntosh.
The club enjoyed hosting the event and look forward to any other opportunities for offshore boats coming over.
